8 Items I am So Happy I Packed for Disney
We went on a trip to Disney, and January was a new time of year for us to go. I definitely over packed, not quite knowing what to expect. I pulled together a list of must haves for your trip whether it’s you and some friends or your family with kids, I hope these items will be helpful to you!
Backpack
For the things below, we brought a back to carry them in that way the weight was evenly distributed on my husband’s back and….he LOVES backpacks! Our back has a cooler type ouch on the bottom that will keep items cold with an ice pack if needed and net pouches on the side to hold our water bottles. This way, they were easy to grab and wouldn’t spill on anything. See below for the tumbler that I am IN LOVE with and didn’t cost a fortune. I found this one on Amazon that not only has the outside drink holder, but also has a place to hold your portable charger! Now thats a great idea. It' seems to be perfect for travelling to. Shhhh - don’t tell my husband, he’ll want a new bag!
And - you know we were going to shop, so it made it easier to carry items throughout the day.
Sweatshirts
The weather can vary from 80 during the day to 50 at night. If you are one to feel chilly at anything below 70, make sure you have a sweatshirt handy. I created this one for myself to be festive. I purchased it at Walmart and used my cricut to create the design. It was perfect for the slight chill in the air in the mornings or at night but then light/small enough to fit in a backpack and not cause too much weight.
Extra Underwear
On the other extreme, we had humidity levels above 70%. Not many people like to discuss this, but for me, that means I was sweating during the day at the highest temps. When you go back to your room, it is nice to freshen up for the evening or even for bed.
Extra Socks
I had been to Disney a few months early and we had a big rainstorm. I wore sneakers and socks while walking through Epcot. My feet were soaked! And we still had a full day of walking around. What I didn’t know until the next day was that blisters had formed on the bottom of my feet. Wow, were they sore.
So this time in January, we brought extra socks on days it had the potential to rain. At least that would help with some of the dampness. If it rains while you are there, once done, change out your socks (and if possible your shoes). Believe me, your feet will thank you!
Snacks
I was surprised that Disney allows food and drink into the parks now. So we kept a few snacks in our bag like nut bars, Swedish fish, beef jerky, and gluten free bars for me. We didn’t want the backpack to be heavy, so we carried just a few of these things. Plus, we were on vacation, we were definitely going to treat ourselves to a few meals out.
Tumbler
My tumbler is one of the favorite things I have purchased in the last few months. I had made it for the Bachelorette trip I went on in September to Disney. (it’s the black one in this picture.
I purchased this at Michael’s Craft Store. The best part is - it keeps your drinks cold or ice in your drink for almost as long - if not as long - as a Yeti. As you can see, the design also matches my sweatshirt from earlier in this blog.
We grabbed ice before we left the hotel for the day, and then when we used our water bottles, grabbed a soda, or grabbing a sangria in Mexico!
A side note, Disney does have places to fill up your water bottles throughout the park and Starbucks will also do cups of ice water for you.
Hat
The sun is BRIGHT! Several days, my sunglasses were enough, but on other days, my hat was helpful. Keeping it in your backpack will be there when you need it.
Umbrella/Poncho
That rain I mentioned earlier? You are going to want a way to keep yourself dry in some way. Because of my larger size, I do not like to wear ponchos. I feel like a blimp. So we each got a small umbrella similar to this one on Amazon. That way, in a moments notice, we can get ourselves dry and run into a nearby ride or store. It was small enough to keep two in our backpacks without taking up too much room. Luckily, we didn’t need them on our trip.
Conclusion
Well there you have eight items I think everyone should consider bringing to the Disney parks in January. I’d love to hear what your go to items for the Disney parks are!
